Strap-ons and pegging: a beginner’s guide for any couple

0

Strap-on play (including pegging, where a partner uses a strap-on for anal penetration) has moved well into the mainstream, and it’s worth understanding on its own terms rather than as a novelty. It’s genuinely just another form of penetrative sex — the mechanics are simply different.

Harness comfort matters more than dildo choice

Most first-timers spend all their attention on choosing the dildo and almost none on the harness — which is a mistake, since a poorly fitting harness is the number one reason people find their first attempt uncomfortable or awkward. Look for adjustable straps, a comfortable waistband, and (for anal use specifically) a harness that allows the wearer some freedom of movement rather than locking the angle rigidly.

Size and material for a first try

Start smaller and less rigid than you might assume you need — a flexible silicone dildo on the slimmer end gives the receiving partner more control over the pace and angle while everyone’s still learning what works. You can size up once you’ve both got a feel for it.

Lube is not optional

Whether it’s vaginal or anal, plenty of lube makes a genuinely significant difference to comfort — reapply generously and don’t assume natural lubrication alone will be enough, especially for anal use, which produces none on its own.
